About
Background to the workshop:
Child marriage is a global problem with 12 million girls getting married before the age of 18 every year. To contribute meaningfully to the worldwide challenge of ending Child Marriage, in 2016 the More Than Brides Alliance (MTBA) came into existence with a girl-centric approach to Child Marriage programming. This approach contrasted to the more conventional approach used to date with a focus on improving the lives of adolescent girls by empowering informed decision-making ability including sexual and reproductive health and rights.
MTBA is a global consortium of more than 25 international and national civil society organizations. The Alliance instigates to empower young people, in particular, adolescent girls to decide if and when to get married and to make informed choices about their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
The alliance is implementing (2016 -2020) an integrated and holistic Child Marriage (CM) program “Marriage No Child’s Play” across five countries namely Mali, Niger, Malawi, Pakistan, and India with the support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In India, the national level alliance is comprised of Save The Children (SCI), Population Council, and Simavi’ s partners Bihar Voluntary Health Association (BVHA), Child In Need Institute (CINI), Network for Enterprise Enhancement and Development Support (NEEDS) and Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI). In India, the Alliance is implementing its program model in 11 development blocks across the four states in the country i.e., four blocks in Bihar, two blocks in Jharkhand, three blocks in Odisha, and two blocks in Rajasthan.
The National Learning Webinar will contribute towards exchange and learning of the documentation of the experiences of the programme “Marriage No Child’s Play” in India and will feed into the learning of the Global Programme.
The event will take place online via Zoom on 17th December 2020, from 1 PM to 4:30 PM India time. Civil Society Academy will facilitate the 3.5 h webinar.
